Two
more poems from the Voices of Change event! Kathy Carle writes of changes in the senior community where she
lives. My short poem is
encouraging emotions to be voiced and then comes the calming down.
Peace
and keep writing,

Here, we are all senior,
senior to our kids and grands,
senior to those who serve us.
We feel safe here, but we know
how small a part of “the people”
we are. We ARE the one percent.
Still, we must work at respect
for the Other: acceptance
does not come easy.
We cling to our several ways.
Tradition ranks high on our list
We like old songs best.
But we’re learning–new ways
to communicate. Same tunes,
new words.

Change needs the primal
scream
and then the calming down.
Change takes time to sink
in,
face risks,
face fears.
Change lives within the
Gospel
as we learn its grace
see it in these new times,
live into the newness,
embrace different relationships
with trust and received
Love.
